The basics of this position:

Upward Bound Facilitators provide guidance, instruction, and support for supplemental high school academic sessions. These academic sessions include work in math, (algebra, advanced algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus), English (grammar, literature, and college writing), science (physics, chemistry, and Biology I and II), and/or foreign language (Spanish, Latin, and French). Upward Bound Facilitators provide Saturday sessions during the academic year to support the participants’ engagement, learning, and understanding of academic content through project-based learning and collaborative assignments. Upward Bound facilitators are responsible for ensuring a multicultural perspective in all elements of the instruction and content delivered.

What you'll do:

  • • Submit syllabi/lesson plans for subject area to be taught.
    • Develop and deliver a curriculum that addresses academic objectives.
    • Submit daily attendance reports.
    • Submit assignments for review and documentation.
    • Attend orientation and on-boarding sessions, awards programs, and other program events.
    • Attend weekly facilitators’ meetings for the purpose of formatively evaluating student
    progress and determining improvement strategies for students.
    • Prepare weekly progress reports and submit them to the Project Director of Upward
    Bound.
    • Submit curriculum evaluation for the purpose of improving program services.
    • Provide feedback to students that will enhance their academic growth.
    • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education, experience, and other requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in teaching subject; master’s degree preferred and/or bachelor's degree
and high school teaching certification in the subject area.
• Two years’ teaching or related experience.
• Previous work in related educational and/or other programs for youth from low-income
or disadvantaged backgrounds preferred.
