The basics of this position:

The Youth Apprenticeship Director is responsible for encouraging, supporting, and connecting apprenticeship sponsoring companies to degree, early college programming, or short-term workforce programs with the College. Responsibilities include establishing apprenticeship or paid internship partnerships with employers, aligning apprenticeship opportunities within related College curricula, and working with K-12 districts in coordination with the dual enrollment/early college team as it relates to dual enrollment opportunities aligned to a paid apprenticeship experience. In close coordination with the Chancellor and other key College officials, the Director assists in the execution of apprenticeship agreements that supports career pathways in high need employment sectors. The position exercises authority in all areas consistent with Board Policies, Administrative Procedures and applicable federal and state mandates in the administration of these programs and services.

What you'll do:

  • Serves as a member of the Leadership Team.
  • Connects and meets with area business and industry leaders to develop paid internship or apprenticeship partnerships for students who attend the college.
  • Secures registered or unregistered apprenticeship experiences in high need careers, including but not limited to advanced manufacturing, information systems and technology, transportation, financial services and biotechnology.
  • In coordination with Marketing and Communications, markets the advantages of apprenticeship programs to all stakeholders, including employers, counselors, faculty, administrators, potential students and parents. Provides regional outreach and engagement sessions for area employers and K-12 districts to educate them about the benefits of apprenticeship programs.
  • Assist K-12 districts with their needs concerning potential apprentices.
  • Provide assistance and resources to student apprentices during their application and interview processes while applying for apprenticeships with local employers.
  • Supply additional resources, as needed, to the college’s internal staff and current apprentices.
  • Collaborates with related partners such as program advisory committees, employers, government agencies, area workforce development offices, local chambers, and economic development staff regarding apprenticeship opportunities in the region.
  • Works closely with the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development, the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, and the US Department of Labor in providing technical assistance to area employers and College employees regarding apprenticeship programs.
  • Assists students registering for apprenticeship or paid internship experiences, including but not limited to early college or dual enrollment programs, that are related to their career pathway.
  • In coordination with Academic, Career and Transfer Advising, prepares students with essential employability skills (i.e., completing job applications, resume building, preparing for employer interactions and interviewing skills).
  • Works closely in coordinating efforts with Academic Affairs and Student Affairs campus leadership, along with other College leadership, to advance apprenticeship programs.
  • Responsible for tracking/reporting the progress of those within apprenticeships.
  • In coordination with the College’s grants and/or foundation office, identify and assist in developing grants to assist in advancing paid internships or apprenticeships for students.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education, experience, and other requirements:

• A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and three (3) years of experience in developing business relationships with area employers required.
