The basics of this position:
This student worker position assists students processing film and working in the darkroom.
The position is responsible for mixing and setting up chemistry before class, and checking out cameras and equipment. The position may perform other lab duties as assigned by faculty.
What you'll do:
- • Assist students with film processing and darkroom supplies
• Assist students with chemistry measurement and film processing steps as needed
• Assist students in the darkroom as needed
• Maintain cleanliness in the film processing room and the darkroom; wipe all surfaces as needed, clean-up spills, clean trays, sinks, etc.
• Mix, check, and set-up fresh chemistry as needed 1/2 hour before class begins
• Check chemistry for exhaustion during each class period and replace as needed
• Place lab waste in the appropriate containers in both the film processing and darkroom areas.
• Check-out film, digital cameras and tripods and maintain a list of all equipment check-outs
• Provide basic camera maintenance; check cameras exposure meters replace batteries and
charge digital cameras. Disinfect cameras before check-out
• Keep a current inventory of all cameras and tripods
• Record all serial numbers for camera bodies, lenses, and tripods
Education, experience, and other requirements:
Previous classes in Black and White Photography at a college level.
Preferred Qualifications:
Be able to use Mac computers and inkjet printers
Know Adobe programs such as Lightroom and Photoshop
Experience working with diverse population of students
Positive, encouraging and supportive attitude toward students
Strong communication skills
