The basics of this position:

The General Fine Arts program at Meramec, part of the Communications, Design and Creative Arts Division at Saint Louis Community College is seeking an Instructor II/Assistant Professor with teaching experience in Foundations (Drawing, Figure Drawing, Two-Dimensional Design, and Painting). Students include General Fine Arts, Graphic Communications, Interior Design, Photography, and General Transfer students. The successful candidate will possess a strong commitment to art foundations teaching and engagement in rigorous personal, creative research. The instructor may also teach at other STLCC campus as assigned.

The art department at STLCC-Meramec is an accredited institutional member of the National
Association of Schools of Art and Design.

***Interested candidates should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, cover letter,
teaching philosophy statement, unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts, three letters
of recommendation, one course syllabus (Drawing I or Figure Drawing I), a list of college courses taught and the number of semesters each course was taught, links (or pdf) of visual documentation (20 images each) of professional studio practice and student work. What you'll do:

  • • Teach a range of courses in General Fine Arts, including foundation level courses (drawing,
    figure drawing, and two-dimensional design), a 2D studio elective (Painting) and Fine Arts Portfolio (a GFA capstone course).
    • Engage in an active studio practice and participate in the arts community through local, regional, and national exhibitions, public forums, conferences, as appropriate to your artistic exploration and practice.
    • Hire and supervise studio models and create their assignments.
    • Mentor and advise GFA students on academic and career pathways and support students' exploration and application to B.A. and BFA programs.
    • Assist and support students with the annual Portfolio Day event, which brings college and art school representatives to campus to meet prospective transfer students.
    • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration among students from diverse backgrounds.
    • Collaborate with colleagues within the department and across disciplines to promote interdisciplinary learning experiences and interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
    • Contribute to the ongoing assessment and accreditation efforts of the General Fine Arts program, ensuring compliance with NASAD standards and guidelines.
    • Participate in departmental and college-wide initiatives, including curriculum development, assessment activities, and program review processes.
    • Serve on departmental, divisional, and college-wide committees as assigned, and actively participate in faculty governance and professional development activities.

Education, experience, and other requirements:

• A terminal degree (MFA) in Fine Arts, with a 2-D emphasis.
• Evidence of an active studio practice and exhibition record, including local, regional, and national exhibitions.
• Demonstrated expertise in observational drawing, figure drawing, and painting.
• Evidence of a strong commitment to help students succeed and to effectively reach a broad range of student learners.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Three years full-time teaching experience at the college or university level, or the equivalent, with a proven ability to effectively engage and motivate students in the classroom.
• Experience working with a diverse student body
