The basics of this position:

Performs the duties necessary to implement strategies to promote the IT organization’s mission and vision. Directs, develops, and manages the IT infrastructure, support, and operations teams, including the budget and planning processes. Directly manages the Technical Services team, Network Engineering team, and Server Administration team. Creates complete IT business plans for the attainment of goals and objectives set by the Leadership Team (LT). Builds an effective team of leaders by providing guidance and coaching to subordinate managers. Directs IT organizational projects to ensure budget compliance and performance and produces regular reporting to the CIO and College Leadership. Forges and maintains relations of trust with staff, faculty, and external authorities. Devises remedial actions for any identified issues and conducts crisis management when necessary.

This position provides district-wide IT operations, financial, budget, vendor and service planning and management for the Information Technology (IT) Department. The executive director routinely interacts with college administrators, faculty members, department chairs, and site-based technology planning groups. The executive director receives broad strategic leadership direction from the CIO.

What you'll do:

  • • Directs all aspects of IT operations, programs and projects involving substantial allocations of resources including proposal, personnel, grant and/or contract development, infrastructure architecture, budget development and management, operational planning and management, staffing, participant recruitment and project evaluation to meet project goals.

    • Directs the management of internal hosting and operations of the college’s Technology and Data Centers including systems, storage, networking and telecommunications.
    • Directs college decisions about hosting internally vs externally to provide optimal service with the best value.
    • Oversees and directs the planning, implementation, moves, additions, and management of the college’s data systems.

    Technical Support:

    • Lead development of a well-trained technical support team providing IT support to staff, faculty, and students.
    • Develops vision, processes, nurtures relationships, and works to improve employee retention and job satisfaction.
    • Works with Technical Support leadership to improve customer satisfaction at all levels.

    Infrastructure Architecture:

    • Lead development of a structured, standardized, and consolidated set of infrastructure services that optimally support operations as well as business process and applications operations.
    • Lead the examination of the possibilities that are offered by new technologies and concrete path towards solutions to the challenges that occur in business operations. Dispel hype, but without missing opportunities.

    Financial Management:

    • Directs the IT budget development process.
    • Align the budget with the College’s and IT goals and objectives.
    • Directs the financial operations of infrastructure/IT support and oversees budget compliance to the IT plan and strategic plan.
    • Directs IT projects for performance and budget compliance.
    • Produces regular reporting to the CIO and College Leadership. Collaborates with the college accounting offices to coordinate the financial planning, procurement, billing, and accounting activities.
    • Works with both IT and College departmental staff to develop Business Cases for IT services.
    • With CIO and IT Leadership, direct and report on the performance of the services to be met by the business case projections.

    Analysis and Planning:

    • Consults and works with the CIO and VC for Finance to direct financial related information in the development of IT Plans, including 3 Year Technology Plan, Strategic Plans, Tactical Plans and Service Plans.

    Project Management:

    • Directs and supervises district-wide, site based and campus infrastructure, end-user technology and other projects to ensure effective and efficient use of resources and successful completion of project objectives.

    Vendor Management:

    • Works with IT Leadership and staff to ensure that vendor’s performance and value is maximized. Performs general vendor and contract management.

    Service Management:

    • Directs the development of Service Level Agreements or Memorandum of Understandings for the services that IT provides. Works with the CIO to develop meaningful metrics of performance and quality of IT services.

    Policy and Procedures:

    • Directs the development of IT policies and ensures the practices are enforced, district-wide end-user technology, network, telephony, server, storage, data processing, power standards and other service for consistency and effective use of resources.
    • Directs the development of procedures to inventory hardware, software and system documentation; promotes the selection and adoption of industry best practices.

    Personal Development:

    • Attends seminars and conferences to keep abreast of emerging technologies; participates in professional associations and shares knowledge with peers.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, experience, and other requirements:

Master's degree and over seven years of relevant full-time experience or equivalent, in a technology departmental management role with specialized knowledge of IT infrastructure, operations, support, architecture, accounting and vendor management.
