The basics of this position:

The Coordinator of the Science Lab performs duties necessary to manage science lab operations including procuring all lab materials and supplies necessary for the day-to-day function, setting up lab experiments, organizing, scheduling, cleaning, and maintaining all science labs and lab spaces used for instruction. The coordinator also monitors budget to ensure proper financing throughout the academic year. The coordinator also works collaboratively with faculty to develop lab experiments as well as assisting faculty in lab instruction when necessary.

What you'll do:

• Hiring, training, evaluating, and supervising educational assistants, lab technicians or student workers.
• Set up and maintain science labs (e.g., chemistry, biology and physics) in an orderly condition for instruction.
• Monitor budget to ensure adequate funds are available
• Manage regulated waste removal from lab spaces.
• Use biotechnology equipment, autoclave and chemical balances.
• Fix and repair microscopes and other small equipment utilized in science labs.
• Work directly with faculty and staff to determine supplies needed for instruction.
• Maintain inventory and order supplies necessary for instruction.
• Work with appropriate vendors to order supplies.
• Maintains service contracts.
• Prepares media, slides, plates, and essentials for microbiology using aseptic technique.
• Coordinate lab safety monitoring and safety practices.
• Maintain accurate records of waste disposal.
• Supervise the use, storage, and disposal of chemical and biological agents as used in labs.
• Assist with laboratory instruction as needed.
• Serve on committees as a representative of the science department.
• Coordinates with the department chair the scheduling of the labs
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education, experience, and other requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry or biology
• 3 years of full-time laboratory coordinating experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Preferred: 18+ hours of graduate courses in either chemistry or biology
• Preferred: Experience with OSHA and safety protocols preferred
