The basics of this position:

***(Temporary, Spring 2025 Semester)***
Saint Louis Community College-Florissant Valley seeks energetic and enthusiastic candidates for a full-time, temporary continuing faculty position in Psychology to start January 2025, Spring Semester. The hire will be made at the level of Instructor II or Assistant Professor, depending on the candidate’s qualifications and teaching experience. Preference will be given to those with community college teaching experience who also demonstrate excellence in online teaching. The successful candidate will demonstrate a student-centered approach as well as continual learning in their own field of expertise. The new Psychology faculty member will be expected to teach across the discipline, provide mentorship, fulfill necessary administrative duties within the Social Science-Humanities Department, serve on campus and district committees and generally contribute to the scholarly and community culture on campus. The teaching load is five courses (15 hours) per fall/spring semester, including multiple sections of General Psychology and Human Growth and Development. Candidates must be willing to teach at other campuses, in addition to the Forest Park Campus. Interested candidates must submit a cover letter, CV/resume, copy of undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and two recommendation letters.

What you'll do:

  • Primary duties include instruction, grading, record-keeping, and compliance with legal and institutional obligations. Additionally, instructors must meet all academic and employee related deadlines and regularly use standard software, including the Microsoft Office suite, as appropriate. Instructors must conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity and inclusion.

    In addition to providing excellent instruction, all faculty members are expected to adhere to the following specific requirements:
    •Maintaining the appropriate number of office hours at times of day convenient for students;
    •Providing meaningful, timely responses and feedback to students’ work and questions;
    •Meeting all department and college deadlines;
    •Maintaining accurate records of student attendance and reporting attendance as required;
    •Keeping careful grade records throughout each term;
    •Reporting both midterm and final grades on Banner Web;
    •Attending scheduled faculty meetings and training sessions; including staying up-to-date with online certifications;
    •Successfully completing policy-related tutorials;
    •Complying with all provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Education, experience, and other requirements:

Master's degree in Psychology or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate hours in the field (psychology, educational psychology, counseling, behavioral studies, studies in human behavior).
