The basics of this position:

The CDLC at Florissant Valley is hiring for Childcare Teacher I (requires Associates Degree) and II (requires Bachelors Degree). performs duties necessary to teach and care for infant through Pre-K children and provide support and constant communication with families. Performs duties necessary to train and supervise college students while providing on-site instruction; assist college students to achieve educational objectives referred by the academic departments (specifically Child and Family Development).

What you'll do:

  • • Operate a developmentally appropriate early childhood classroom using a constructivist curriculum and environment with quality interactions and programing based on licensing regulations and accreditation standards.
    • Coordinate and direct the work of all part-time employees, student workers, practicum students; coordinate all visits from guests, therapists, and volunteers.
    • Welcome and invite college students to be a part of the CDLC community.
    • Model developmentally appropriate practice in the classroom; coach and provide feedback to students during practicum time and individual meetings; review and critique student assignments and experiences.
    • Complete paperwork for faculty and communicate progress of students to faculty.
    • Observe, record development, and create goals for individual children; use those goals to create the constructivist curriculum and environment within the classroom.
    • Maintain all paperwork for children's records and classroom curriculum.
    • Maintain all accreditation portfolios.
    • Develop and maintain rapport and trust with families; initial home visit prior to enrollment, developmental conferences on the child's birthday and half birthday months (additional conferences if
    • needed by parent or teacher), transition and exit conferences; four educational parent meetings per year; daily communication and bimonthly newsletters.
    • Maintain current in the field of child development and early childhood education.
    • Maintain current CPR and infant child first aid.
    • Maintain all annual training required for MO licensing, MO DSS, IL DSS and STLCC.
    • Participates in CDLC Parent Advisory Council, STLCC, and community events.
    • Assists with other matters as assigned.

Education, experience, and other requirements:

• Associate degree (Teacher I) Bachelors degree (Teacher II) in Early Care and Education, Child and Family Development, or the equivalent*
• Minimum of one year of relevant early childhood classroom experience, including practicum
* 30 college credits in Early Care and Education, Child and Family Development, or similar and an additional 2 years of relevant early childhood classroom experience, including practicum
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to move quickly up and down off the floor
• Ability to lift items overhead, bend, and stoop
