Saint Louis Community College seeks energetic and enthusiastic candidates for a full-time, continuing faculty position in Psychology to start January 2023 on the Florissant Valley Campus. The hire will be made at the level of Instructor II or Assistant Professor, depending on the candidate’s qualifications and teaching experience. Preference will be given to those with community college and online teaching experience. The successful candidate will exhibit a student-centered approach as well as continual learning in their own field(s) of expertise. The new Psychology faculty member will be expected to teach, mentor students, fulfill some administrative duties within the Social Science-Humanities Department, serve on campus committees and generally contribute to the scholarly culture on campus. The ability to work effectively with students and colleagues of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and racial/ethnic backgrounds, gender identity/expression, sexual preference/orientation, and abilities/disabilities is required. The teaching load is five courses (15 hours) per fall/spring semester, including multiple sections of General Psychology and Human Growth and Development. Additionally, we are seeking candidates who are able to teach courses in Sociology or Anthropology, although this is not required. Interested candidates must submit a CV/resume, copy of undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and at least 1 recommendation letter along with their application. Primary Duties Performed:
Instructors are responsible for engaging instruction, grading, record-keeping, and compliance with legal and institutional obligations, meeting related deadlines and the use of standard software. Instructors must conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity.
In addition to providing excellent instruction, all faculty members are expected to adhere to the following specific requirements:
•Maintaining the appropriate number of office hours at times of day convenient for students;
•Providing meaningful, timely responses and feedback to students’ work and questions;
•Meeting all department and college deadlines;
•Maintaining accurate records of student attendance and reporting attendance as required;
•Keeping careful grade records throughout each term;
•Reporting both midterm and final grades on Banner Web;
•Attending scheduled faculty meetings and training sessions;
•Successfully completing policy-related tutorials;
•Complying with all provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Master's degree in Psychology
Ph.D. in Psychology
Community College Teaching Experience
Online Teaching Experience and Certification
Demonstrated Commitment to Diversity, Inclusion and Equity
Experience Teaching via Various Learning Modalities
At Least 18 Graduate Credit Hours in Sociology or Anthropology
